Dusty heard his calling around the age of
nine, mesmerized by his father's vintage
record collection, checking out ghostly
blues records at the local library, and
hearing tapes of his grandfather playing
guitar. While in college, he began
teaching himself to play guitar; jamming
with local music gurus and friends, and
breaking city noise ordinances.
In 1999, he helped form The Distants.
Dusty spent the next few years writing
and recording original music and playing
in shadow-filled clubs around Columbus.
The Distants' style could not be labeled.
They mixed blues, funk, jazz, country,
and modern rock into unforgettable
organic music.

When the call came from longtime friend Casey Hennigan to start Stampede, he was
ready to go. Dusty is heavily influenced by Charlie Christian, Scotty Moore, Jimmy
Page, and Don Felder. He is quite particular about his guitar tone and the way he
approaches music. On nights when Stampede is not playing, Dusty is busy playing open
mic nights in the Columbus area.
